To the Editor:
As we pass the fifteenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, our nation takes time to reflect upon that tragic day. This solemn anniversary hits close to home to many in our area who lost loved ones or close personal friends. On this day we are also reminded that the dangers of terrorism are all too real.
Fortunately, our Congresswoman, Barbara Comstock, has been working hard to provide justice for victims of terrorism and to keep our nation safe. Barbara cosponsored the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, which passed the Senate and House overwhelmingly. This bill will finally give families of September 11 victims long awaited justice by allowing them to sue Saudi Arabia and hold those who perpetrated the attacks accountable.
Congresswoman Comstock also supported H.R. 5351, which passed the House on a bipartisan vote this earlier this month. This bill prohibits the transfer of detainees held at Guantanamo to the United States. With our region being one of the main targets of terrorism, we cannot afford to take the unnecessary national security risk of closing GITMO and bringing some of the most dangerous terrorists to the U.S.
Barbara Comstock has made national security a top priority in Congress, and is leading efforts to reduce the risk of terrorism. I’ll be voting for her this November and I urge you to do the same.
