Despite invisible and physical fences, Great Falls dogs seem to be very successful in their search for adventure beyond their yards. Research suggests that neutering dogs can slow down their interest in roaming, but that doesn’t seem to have deterred our local canines. While this sample size is small and self-selected, it is a noticeably male group.
If you are looking to protect your pet, making sure your dog has a collar with contact info is a no brainer and a microchip is not a bad idea. Having an Invisible Fence works for many, when it’s turned on and dogs wear their collars. And physical fences are a great impediment to wandering, unless a distracted family member or workman leaves the gate open or there is a breach of opportunity to dig under it. A light for the collar is great, if turned on. And, when all else fails, posting on Nextdoor Great Falls has proven to help recover our local lost four-legged family members.
