Playing Golf, Helping Great Falls Schools

Great Falls Friends & Neighbors supports local elementary schools.

One of Great Falls’ philanthropic organizations, Great Falls Friends & Neighbors (GFFN), has been supporting community efforts for the last 35 years. The most recent example was a $1,000 check presented to the Celebrate Great Falls Foundation (CGFF) on April 5 for the upcoming golf tournament benefiting our elementary schools.

Claire Abbott, the community liaison for GFFN, shared the group’s excitement about the donation: “Our club was looking for ways to support a larger portion of students in our GFFN demographic boundaries. By donating to [CGFF], our donation will directly benefit [our local] schools.

“The Great Falls Annual Charity Golf Fundraiser has allowed us to transition our efforts to be inclusive and support the education of a greater number of local students. We are [thrilled] that our donation to the students will improve their classroom technology, with computers and software, to enhance their education.”

A member of the CGFF board and the Great Falls Welcome Committee, Barbara Morehouse has been working on the golf tournament since 2012 and shared some insight into this year’s event. “This year we are trying something new with a Kid’s Putting Contest. We also hope to have some members of the Langley Golf Team, who happen to be the current state champs, come out to work with the little guys and maybe engage in a few friendly competitions with the golfers.”

With the continued support of groups like Great Falls Friends & Neighbors, and the hard work and time dedicated by the Celebrate Great Falls Foundation, fundraising events like the golf tournament on May 14 are an important part of the community benefiting students at Forestville, Great Falls, and Colvin Run elementary schools.
