I am writing in response to your article titled “Results vs. Resistance or Common-sense vs. Out-of-Touch in the 10th District”.(The Connection, September 26-October 2, 2018). Virginia State Senator Jennifer Wexton represents the only choice for common-sense leadership and a return to good governance for the U. S. Congress.
Republican control of the Federal government has proven a dismal failure for average American taxpayers, and U. S. Rep. Barbara Comstock has been part of the problem. Major issues for the average American voter almost always boil down to the economy, wages and healthcare and Rep. Comstock and her Republican cohorts have left the majority of Americans in the lurch. The Republican tax bailout for the wealthiest one percent, for which Rep. Comstock voted in favor, has left the rest of America holding an additional $1.2 trillion in debt with nothing in return.
Little, if any of the corporate bailout has “trickled down” to Virginia wage earners. The little income tax relief that was peddled to the average taxpayer was smoke and mirrors. This fictitious tax relief was completely negated by limits placed on state and local tax and mortgage interest deductions and more importantly, elimination of personal exemptions. The issue is further exacerbated by Republican mismanagement of modifications to the Affordable Care Act. By refusing to enforce the individual mandate and then repealing that mandate in the flawed GOP tax bill, they are causing instability in the insurance markets, creating ever-increasing health insurance premiums.
The only thing we should “repeal and replace” is Rep. Comstock and her Republican colleagues. Working Americans in Virginia’s 10th district deserve a representative who reflects their values and doesn’t tell them lies. Jennifer Wexton fought for all Virginians in the state legislature and will continue to fight for all Virginians when elected to Congress on November 6th.
