The Fairfax County Park Authority joins with Bike Fairfax to welcome cyclists to the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, as part of National Bike Your Park Day festivities. The ride will begin at Audrey Moore RECenter (in Wakefield Park) at 10 a.m. and feature welcoming remarks from Congressman Gerry Connolly and other officials. Audrey Moore RECenter is located at 8100 Braddock Road in Annandale. Following this brief ceremony, Bike Fairfax will lead a six-mile family ride from Wakefield Park to Lake Accotink and back.
Managing over 23,000 acres of land, the Park Authority is the leading provider of active and passive recreational facilities in the region. Trails provide one of the primary means for citizens to enjoy the many oases of green in the County, with hundreds of miles of trails in the County park system alone. While trails are used for a variety of recreational purposes, they also serve the community by providing connectivity as transportation corridors between homes, businesses, schools and parks. The Park Authority's trails are shared by bike riders, walkers, joggers and horseback riders alike.
